TV personality John Kelly who first appeared on WJBK-TV in 1965 before moving on to WXYZ, has died, WXYZ reported Sunday. He was 88.
In 1975, Kelly, a St. Louis native, married weathercaster Marilyn Turner. He worked alongside Bill Bonds, Turner and Al Ackerman at WXYZ, the station reports.
The couple eventually launched the morning show "Kelly and Company" and "Good afternoon, Detroit, " WXYZ reports.
Journalist Tim Kiska wrote in his book on the history of Detroit television, "From Soupy to Nuts!," that Detroit attorney Henry Baskin described the Kelly-Le Goff-Hodak lineup as the "New York Yankees" of local TV, the Detroit Free Press reports.
