Breaking Barriers: Farmington Hills Woman With Hijab Graces Cover of Fitness Magazine

To state the obvious, you'd be hard pressed to find a woman wearing a Muslim hijab on the cover of a fitness magazine.

That being said, meet marathon runner Rahaf Khatib, 32, who lives in Farmington Hills with her husband and three children. 

“She emailed us citing a lack of Muslim hijabi women represented in women’s magazines and challenged us to change that. We couldn’t help but hear her,”Jessie Sebor, editor-in-chief of Women's Running magazine told Buzzfeed. 

Ta-da.

Khatib, clad in a hijab,  graces the cover of the October issue of Women's Running.

BuzzFeed's Sally Tamarkin writes that the Khatib, who moved from Syria to the U.S. in the 1980s, "is believed to be the first hijabi woman ever to appear on the cover of a US fitness magazine."
