Updated: Did Michigan House Speaker Bolger Commit Perjury?
Could state House speaker Jase Bolger and state Rep. Roy Schmidt is Michigan eventually face criminal charges?
The Detroit Free Press reports that a State Police detective Sgt. Robert Davis wrote in an affidavit for search warrants that the two may have committed perjury.
The two are supposed to have recruited a fake Democrat, Matt Mojzak, 22, to run for a Grand Rapids House seat.
The Freep reported that Kent County Prosecutor William Forsyth terminated the case before Davis could execute search warrants.
Democrats have asked Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette to reopen the investigation.
Updated: The Detroit News reported that Prosecutor Forsyth says he halted the state police probe and instead made public his findings so that public would quickly know about the plot and how voters were being deprived of a legitimate Democratic candidate.
By not putting the issue out there in the public, he told the News, "I would be influencing the election as well."
