Update, 10 a.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m.: Rather than face a painful and embarrassing trial, ex-Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh pleaded guilty today to two counts of criminal sexual conduct, WXYZ reports.

The agreement with county prosecutors calls for a prison term of 5.5 to 15 years in prison. Pugh, who admitted in court to having sex with an underage teen, will go on a lifetime sex offenders registry.

Sentencing is set for Nov. 9 at  9 a.m. before Wayne County Circuit Judge Thomas Cameron.

Former Detroit City Council president and ex-TV anchor Charles Pugh, who was scheduled to go trial next month for having sex with an underage teenager, is expected to plead guilty Wednesday in Wayne County Circuit Court, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Pugh’s lawyer, Delphia Burton confirmed to the Free Press on Tuesday that her client plans to plead guilty to two of five criminal sexual conduct charges.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office emailed a news release on Tuesday afternoon saying that a pretrial hearing was set for 9 a.m. Wednesday.

By pleading guilty, Pugh will avoid a lot embarrassing details about his private life.

Back in August, Pugh, 45.  listened to his well-poised, articulate 27-year-old accuser testify in graphic detail at a preliminary hearing about how, as a gay teen, at 14 and 15 years of age, he  had anal and oral sex with Pugh, who at the time, worked as a reporter and and anchor at Fox 2.  At some points, he got down to specifics, talking about lubrication and anal penetration.

The judge recently ruled that other teens would also be allowed to testify in trial.
