After Damaging Publicity, Como's Reopens Ferndale Bar

October 26, 2016, 10:43 PM by  Allan Lengel

You might recall that the county health department last month shut Como's Restaurant and Pizzeria, a Ferndale landmark on Woodward Avenue, for failing to maintain a safe and clean environment. In other words, it was filthy and not fit to serve customers.

Now, the bar has reopened, according to a Tuesday post on its Facebook page with this photo. It says:

Como's is reopened and better than ever! Only the bar is open until our new inventory of food arrives. Feel free to grab and drink and check out our renovated space!!

The announcement includes this photo).

The place definitely had its devotees, though customer loyalty now is sorely tested after inspectors found repeated violations over three years in a dozen categories. Some involved insects, mold, employee smoking in food areas and unsafe storage.

in a tweet responding to this article, Detroit public relations consultant Mario Morrow Sr. offers "free advice to Como's -- change your name, get new management, ban the owner, only serve drinks."
