Detroit-based TV shows generally haven't had greatest success in recent years.

The cop shows "Low Winter Sun" on AMC (2013) and "Detroit 1-8-7" (2010-11) on ABC lasted only a season. Each hit a stride near the end of the season, but by then it seemed the obituary had been written.

Hopefully this one will fare better.

"Detroiters," a Comedy Central show, is scheduled to premiere on Feb. 7, according to the Comedy Central website. The show is being executive produced by Lorne Michaels and Jason Sudeikis of Saturday Night Live fame. Sudeikis, will also act and portray a vice president of marketing for Chrysler.

The show is about best friends, Sam and Tim, who are fledgling ad men, who "may not have the money, connections or talent that the big guys do, but they have ambition out the wazoo. Together, they’re out to build a local advertising empire and restore their home city of Detroit to its former glory."

The 10-episode weekly series is created and written by Sam Richardson, Tim Robinson, Joe Kelly and Zach Kanin. Richardson and Robinson, both native Metro Detroiters, will star.

Richardson, who grew up in Detroit, is best known as “Richard Splett” on HBO’s hit series ”Veep." He also made appearances on such shows as "The Office” and “Arrested Development.”  Robinson, who grew up in Clarkston, started at The Second City Detroit before ultimately joining the Main Stage at Second City in Chicago. He has written for  “Saturday Night Live” and has had guest appearances on IFC’s “Documentary Now!” and “Comedy Bang Bang.”

Ex-Piston Rick Mahorn will appear on the show in what's described as an homage to the old Mel Farr Superstar spots, which were among Richardson and Robinson's favorite commercials as kids, writes Julie Hinds of the Detroit Free Press, who adds:

Actor Larry Joe Campbell, another Detroit comedy export, will be a guest star and other Detroit-linked celebrities are likely to pop up as well. You'll also see members of Detroit's Slow Roll bicycle movement in scenes and glimpse iconic products like Faygo pop and Better Made potato chips.
