Take another deep bow, Detroit. You rank in the top half of a culinary innovators list posted this week by an authoritative restaurant review site.

In a "26 Hottest Food Cities of 2016" national roundup, the Zagat guidebook site places Detroit at No. 13 -- ahead of Chicago, Austin, San Francisco, Miami, New York (!) and San Diego, among others.

The Peterboro opened last March in the Cass Corridor, offering Chinese-American dishes.

Criteria include "exciting new openings, award recognition and national media attention." The Top 5 honors go, in order, to Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Denver, Boston and Seattle.

Detroit's write-up by Devorah Lev-Tov, a New York freelancer, gives shouts to newcomers Katoi, The Peterboro and Grey Ghost Detroit, "which was opened by two well-known Chicago chefs (yes, chefs are leaving other cities to come to Detroit now!)

Lev-Tov also mentions earlier stars: Roast, Selden Standard, Mabel Gray in Hazel Park and even tiny Sister Pie bakery-café in West Village.

Zagat's salute to Detroit also looks ahead:

There's more in store: Twice-nominated James Beard Rising Star of the Year Garrett Lipar's new tasting table spot Albena and Townhouse owner Jeremy Sasson's new modern steakhouse Prime + Proper are two of the city's most anticipated restaurants for 2017. . . .

It was also announced this year that NYC Italian chef Andrew Carmellini would be in charge of the food at the upcoming Shinola Hotel in Detroit, opening in 2018.
