Attorney General Bill Schuette, a Republican, was elected to enforce the laws of Michigan and carry out the will of the people.

In this case, Schuette, who was very vocal about his support for Donald Trump in the 2016 campaign, has no real idea what the will of the people is when it comes to the state's presidential recount. There has been no polls, no vote. No legislative resolution.

But that doesn't stop him from intervening.

Schuette asked the Michigan Supreme Court on Friday for a hearing Tuesday to block the recount, according to Chad Livengood of The Detroit News.

“This court cannot allow a dilatory and frivolous request for a recount by an aggrieved party to silence all Michigan votes for president,” Deputy Attorney General Matthew Schneider writes in a court filing.

There's no legal reason to get involved.  Green Party candidate Jill Stein exercised her legal right to ask for a recount at a time the president-elect has made allegations that millions of people voted illegally. That's a pretty good reason in itself to do a recount. Why deny Stein her rights?

And how in the heck would a recount "silence all Michigan votes for president"? The Electoral College Vote might get delayed beyond Dec. 19, but Michigan votes would be counted.

Besides, the recount could get delayed because of Schuette's attempt to tie this up in court.

Schuette has supported Trump and could benefit from White House support if he runs in 2018 for governor. He's clearly biased and needs to recuse himself and his office in this recount considering he's doing this at taxpayer expense on behalf of his favored candidate -- and ultimately himself.

Besides, there's no need for him to intervene. Trump's lawyers filed papers to try and block the recount.

They've got it covered.
