Wednesday: 7:15 p.m. -- President elect-Donald Trump, as expected, has selected Ronna Romney McDaniel, the Michigan GOP chair, to head the Republican National Committee.

For now, she'll be listed as deputy chair. But she will take over the RNC after the current chairman, Reince Priebus, takes his new post as Trump's chief of staff, the Washington Post reports.

“Ronna has been extremely loyal to our movement and her efforts were critical to our tremendous victory in Michigan, and I know she will bring the same passion to the Republican National Committee," Trump said in a statement issued by the RNC.

Report From Tuesday

Ronna Romney McDaniel, the Michigan GOP chair who became a Donald Trump loyalist after he won the state primary, is expected to head the Republican National Committee, Bloomberg News reports.

Trump's selection of McDaniel may be seen as a consolation prize for  the Romney family after Trump decided not to pick McDaniel's uncle Mitt Romney for secretary of state. Trump is expected to nominate Rex Tillerson for that job.

Trump also has chosen Bob Paduchik, a veteran campaign operative from Ohio, to serve as co-chair,  Mike Dorning and Jennifer Jacobs of Bloomberg report.

Trump praised Romney McDaniel on Friday in Grand Rapids for her campaign efforts.
