Kid Rock for U.S. Senate? No, it's not a story in The Onion.

His name surfaced as a possible candidate at the Michigan Republican Party convention last weekend, reports Roll Call, a respectable Washington publication that covers Capitol Hill.

No official decision is announced, writes Roll Call. Rock would run in 2018 against Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, now in her third term.

Kid Rock, aka Robert Ritchie, qualified himself as “more libertarian” to Rolling Stone in 2013, but he's backed Republicans including Mitt Romney in 2012, Ben Carson in the 2016 primary and ultimately Donald Trump in the general election.

After the election, Kid Rock started to sell pro-Trump merchandise including T-shirts with the phrase “God, Guns & Trump.”
