Walmart Acquires Madison-Heights Based Moosejaw

Moosejaw, the high-end outdoor retailer based in Madison Heights, has been acquired by giant retailer Walmart for $51 million, Walmart announced on Wednesday.

Founded in 1992, Moosejaw will be run as a standalone and complementary brand to Walmart's e-commerce sites, according to a news release. Moosejaw will continue to be based in Madison Heights. 

Moosejaw carries more than 400 brands, including Patagonia, The North Face, Marmot and Arc’teryx and has an extensive selection of apparel and gear for climbing, hiking, camping, snow sports, yoga, swimming and biking.

"Moosejaw has a large assortment of specialty apparel and accessories, strong industry relationships, and rich product content," said the Walmart new release.  "Their expertise will help us further enhance our customer experience."
