February 16, 2017, 1:55 PM

In the hunt for a vegan or vegetarian mate?

After operating for five years in San Francisco, "Veg Speed Date" is hosting events across the U.S. and Canada.

Its first Michigan event is March 22 from 7-9 p.m. at GreenSpace Cafe, a vegan restaurant at 215 W. 9 Mile Rd. in Ferndale.

The event is exclusively for vegan and vegetarian singles, and for age groups, 21-40 and 35-50. according to a press release. If you're over 50, it looks as if you're flat out of luck. Find a vegetarian or vegan on your own or just settle for an understanding carnivore who won't mock you for ordering tofu.

The site says:

Veg Speed Date is expanding on the unique vegan/vegetarian speed dating concept that Karine Brighten has refined over 5 years in San Francisco. We have thought through every detail to make sure people have a great time, don’t need to worry about feeling rejected, and have the best chance of making that special connection. Karine’s events have already resulted in life-changing matches for San Francisco vegans and vegetarians, giving rise to long-term relationships, marriages, and families.

A $35 early purchase ticket for next monh's Ferndale event includes an appetizer and bar drink, door prize raffle, a short talk by GreenSpace Cafe owner Dr. Joel Kahn, a noted cardiologist, and speed dating tips.

People will have five-minute "dates" to gauge interest and are notified within 24 hours after the event of any matches.

After Feb. 28, the price goes to $40.
