Keith Crain, editor-in-chief of Crain's Detroit Business, sees some good in the plan by Dan Gilbert and Tom Gores to build a soccer stadium on the site of the unfinished Wayne County Jail site in downtown Detroit.  In return, Gilbert has offered to build the jail and courthouse around E. Forest and I-75.

Wayne County Executive Warren Evans is deciding whether to accept the Gilbert offer or move forward and finish building the jail on the current site.

Crain writes in a column:

The idea of adding a soccer stadium to this sports complex downtown makes a lot of good sense, clustering them all together, but the taxpayers are growing weary of footing the bill for sports stadiums. We will have to find out just how much it would cost to move everything in our justice system out of downtown.

We don't even know whether their idea for a soccer team will have the support that baseball, football, basketball and hockey already have in our city.

Warren Evans will have to figure that out. But let's not get mad at him if he rejects the plan. We will just have to wait and see.
