The QLINE,  which has been running regular tests along its 3.3 mile track on Woodward Avenue from downtown to Midtown in Detroit, will officially begin offering services on its streetcars on Friday, May 12.

“QLINE’s grand opening will be a historic day in Detroit,” M-1 RAIL CEO Matt Cullen said in a statement. “We’re bringing rail transit back to the heart of the city and connecting the Woodward Corridor in a way that’s already begun to transform the entire district.” The M-1 RAIL is the organization that operates the QLINE.

“Testing and training continues to go well,” said M-1 RAIL COO Paul Childs. “We’re excited for people to experience their first ride on the streetcar."

The cost of a ride will be $1.50. Customers who buy day, month or yearly passes will pay less per ride.

Construction on the line began in July 2014. The first test run was in December. The cars are powered by a 750-volt lithium ion battery, and 60 percent of the time operate off-wire.

The QLINE will operate from 6 a.m. - 11 p.m. Monday-Thursday,  6 a.m.- midnight on Friday, 8 a.m. -midnight on Saturday and from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Sunday.
