Is Suspect in Shooting of 2 Detroit Officers Linked to WSU Cop Killing?

March 15, 2017, 11:15 PM by  Allan Lengel

Update: 11:05 p.m. -- A suspect identified as Raymond Durham was arrested late Wednesday night in connection with the shooting of two Detroit Police officers earlier in the evening, shortly after 8 p.m. The officers are expected to survive their wounds.

Authorities are now trying to determine if Durham is connected to the November slaying of Wayne State University Campus Officer Collin Rose, who was shot in the head.

"We are not ruling anything out. We’re looking at everything," Police Chief James Craig said Wednesday night.

Witnesses in the neighborhood told police they believe that Durham is connected to the Wayne State shooting.

It also it appears that Durham may have been wearing the same clothing on Wednesday as the person seen in a video running away after the Collin Rose shooting.

Chief Craig said Durham was shot and wounded in the leg during the initial confrontation with police Wednesday night at Tillman and Ash, a known narcotics spot, on the city's west side. Craig said Durham was taken into custody without incident and transported to the hospital for treatment.

The shooting on Wednesday was not far from where WSU Officer Rose was shot.

Craig said a weapon was recovered Wednesday night. Ballistic tests are being conducted to see if the gun matches the bullets shot Wednesday as well as in the Rose shooting.

The other officer was shot in the neck, but was expected to survive,  the chief said.

He said the area is a known drug area. The officers had approached the suspect, who was acting fidgety. The suspected opened fire.

Craig said some officers had been working in the area investigating the unsolved fatal shooting last year of Wayne State University Officer Collin Rose.

Craig said it was unclear if the man was connected to that shooting.

Update: 9:39 p.m. -- WDIV reports that the officers do not have life threatening wounds.
