Michael Ford, the  CEO of the Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan, was given the ax Thursday after the board found he made a  series of careless spending decisions on his expense account,  WDIV reports.

The RTA board reachd that decision at a Thursday afternoon meeting.

An investigation found he had made about $20,000 in questionable spending at the expense of taxpayers. Ford paid the money back.

Under the termination, he'll get  $118,000 in pay and vacation pay. The RTA will also pay 80 percent of his health benefits, the station reports.

The board appointed Tiffany Gunter as the interim CEO. She has bee deputy CEO and chief operating officer since 2014.
