Kid Rock's New Lions' Fight Song Sounds Different Than The Old Anthem
Want to see how much the world has changed since the pre-World War II era?
Play Kid Rock's new fight song for the Detroit Lions, "In Detroit," and then play "Gridiron Heroes," the team anthem that dates back to the late 1930's.
The lyrics for Rock's Lions anthem, "In Detroit," includes the line, "We rock blue jeans, tees, and old English Ds ... so, baby, you best believe this is how we do it in Detroit."
Rock also sings about the "blue and gray." Hmmm. Aren't the Lions' colors blue and silver? Perhaps your eyes read silver as gray after you've done a few of Rock's American Badass beer.
You also can hear the sound of lions roaring in the new version.
The lyrics to "Gridiron Heroes" includes the lines, "Hail the colors Blue and Silver let them wave/Sing their song and cheer the Gridiron Heroes brave."
The song is part of Pepsi NFL Anthems, a program launched earlier this month to pump fans up for the NFL season.
In addition to Rock, three other artists -- Kelly Clarkson, Ice Cube and Travie McCoy -- created original team anthems, each inspired by the artists' passion for their hometowns and NFL teams.

"Gridiron Heroes" comes from the era when the team become a part of Detroit and owner G.A. Richards wanted a fight song.
Wayne State University director of bands Graham T. Overgard wrote the lyrics and music to "Gridiron Heroes-The Victory Song of the Detroit Lions".

Here are the lyrics to "Gridiron Heroes:"
Hail the colors Blue and Silver let them wave.
Sing their song and cheer the Gridiron Heroes brave,
Fighting for fame, winning the game,
Dashing to victory as they go.
Forward down the field,
A charging team that will not yield.
And when the Blue and Silver wave,
Stand and cheer the brave.
Rah, Rah, Rah.
Go hard, win the game.
With honor you will keep your fame.
Down the field and gain,
A Lion victory!
