Two Detroit Cops Shot and Wounded; Resident May Have Been Protecting Home

Two Detroit Police officers were shot and wounded late Sunday night while responding to an attempted break-in at a home on Detroit's west side,WXYZ reports. The officers may have been unintentionally hit by a single bullet shot by teenager inside who was protecting the home.

The two officers were responding to the 20500 block of Lesure between Northfolk and 8 Mile around 11:45 p.m. when a shot was fired through a window, Kim Russell reports. One officer was hit in the face and other was hit in the arm with shrapnel from the same bullet. 

Police say they were taken to Sinai Grace Hospital where the officer shot in the arm was treated and released and the other was in critical condition. 

Police Chief James Craig said the 19-year-old fired the shot and may not have known who was at the door.

A woman and her two sons, 19 years old and 14 years old, who live at the home were detained by police.
