Macomb County Clerk and Register of Deeds Karen Spranger is a high-maintenance politician who generates a lot of media attention. After four months in office, she's already the target of a whistleblower lawsuit.
Now this:
Last week, she ducked into a restroom to avoid WDIV reporter Priya Mann and then had an employee call 911 to report she "felt harassed" and wanted "reporters to stop asking her questions" about problems in her office, reports Christina Hall of the Detroit Free Press.
That same day, Mann of WDIV aired a report in which she asked Spranger for comment on the litigation, and that Spranger hid in a bathroom in the administration building, then didn't comment after the reporter followed her down six flights of steps, the Freep writes.
A complaint filed with the sheriff's department says deputies were dispatched to the county administration building in downtown Mt. Clemens just before 3 p.m. last Tuesday, the Freep reports. The reporter was gone and no arrest or charges were filed.
Spranger said she felt harassed, the complaint says. Deputies explained “that the press is within their constitutional rights to be on the premises of a public building and request comments from public employees.”
