That's Carmen Harlan You'll Hear on the QLine

April 19, 2017, 8:49 AM

There's public life after TV for Carmen Harlan's voice.

The former WDIV anchor, who was a fixture on station for 38 years, will be the onboard voice of Detroit's new QLine, the station reports. She recorded station names and other announcements

Harlan's last official broadcast was Nov. 8.

“About 18 months ago, Carmen came to me to say that she wanted to retire in the near future. I wanted to pretend that I didn’t hear her. There is only one Carmen Harlan and I wish she would stay forever, but I understand her desire to spend more time with her children and their families,”  Marla Drutz vice-president and general manager, said on WDIV's site last September. “She is a class act who has been true booster for this city.”

QLine rides begin May 12. The 3.3-mile streetcar route links Midtown and downtown.

The launch will be a little less chaotic, thanks to the fact the TIgers will be out of town that week until May 16.
