Former Detroit emergency medical technician Ann Marie Thomas, 45, is charged with failing to respond to a medical dispatch in northwest Detroit for an 8-month-old baby struggling to breathe.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced Wednesday that Thomas faces a charge of willful neglect of duty, which carries a maximum penalty of up to 5 years in prison. She was arraigned Wednesday morning in Detroit's 36th District Court andfreed on a $25,000 personal bond. A pre-trial hearing is April 28.
The May 30, 2015 incident was near a home in the 19900 block of Glastonbury. Thomas intentionally delayed her response, authorities say, by parking less than a mile from the location.
Another EMT unit was dispatched, but the child died that day. The city fired Thomas three weeks later.
