Performances by filmmaker John Waters and Sixto Rodriguez make for an interesting weekend, so have fun. All events are in Detroit.

Friday

Cass Corridor | Connecting Times:  Simone DeSousa Gallery exhibits past Cass Corridor artists, curated by Nancy Mitchnick. Opening reception 6-9 p.m. at the Willys Overland Lofts, 444 W. Willis, Units 111-12. Info here.

Friday and Saturday

John Waters: the Sultan of Sleaze, the Baron of Bad Taste, the Pope of Trash, does a stand-up birthday party performance at El Club in southwest Detroit. He'll be 71 Saturday. Performances:  Friday at 9 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.   El Club, 4114 Vernor Hwy. Tickets: $40 or $200 for dinner (Friday) or breakfast (Saturday) with Waters. Tickets here.

Saturday

Sixto Rodriguez: The musician of "Searching for Sugar Man" fame performs at Crofoot Ballroom, 1 S. Saginaw Street, Pontiac. Saturday, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. All weekend

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre: Four performances inlude "Revelations," the group's signature work. Friday  7:30 p.m., Saturday 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., Sunday. 2:30 p.m. Detroit Opera House, 1526 Broadway. Tickets here. 

David Lynch, the Art Life: This film includes  personal interviews recorded over the course of three years with artist and filmmaker David Lynch. He reveals the experiences, insights, memories and obsessions that fueled his imagination. Friday, 7 p.m.; Saturday 7 p.m.;  Sunday,  2 p.m. Detroit Film Theater at the Detroit Institute of Arts, 5100 Woodward Ave. Tickets here.

Screw It: Doin' Time on the Line: Tim Campos, a playwright-actor raised in Southwest Detroit and now living near Chicago, comes home for three performances of a play dramatizing his nine years on Ford assembly lines. Fri., 8 p.m., Sat.,  8 p.m. and Sun. 2 p.m.  Marlene Boll Theatre at The Boll Family YMCA, 1401 Broadway. Tickets $15 here.

Motown the Musical: Calling out, around Detroit -- are you ready for a classic beat? Tribute show runs through April 30. Friday 8 p.m., Satirday 2 and 8 p.m., Sunday 2. and 7:30 p.m. Fisher Theatre, 3011 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit.  Tickets here.
