Luke Jaden, a 21-year-old Detroiter,  is working on his fifth film, "My Pretty Pony," which adapts a short story from a Stephen King book, "Nightmares & Dreamscapes."

"I'm a huge fan of Stephen King," says Jaden, who grew up in Clarkston, graduated from Detroit Country Day and is a junior at DePaul University in Chicago. He lives in Detroit and takes online courses.

In two weeks, Jaden says he'll be filming in an apple Orchard in Romeo, Mich.

The independently produced film is about about a grandfather on his deathbed who spends a lot of time with his grandson warning of the dangers of letting time slip away.

The grandson is played by Noah Jupe, 11, who is starring in a "Suburbicon," an upcoming movie directed by George Clooney and starring Matt Damon and Julianne Moore.

Actor Tobin Bell, who plays the grandfather, is best-known for his role in the film series “Saw.”

Operating with a low budget, Jaden says most of the film crew is local, and he wanted to film locally even though state grants are no longer available.  "I've grown up in Michigan," he says. "Michigan is a beautiful place to film."

He hopes to complete the film by fall.

His credits include "The Wolf Who Cried Boy" (2015), "King Ripple "and "The Listing."
