Sen. Elizabeth Warren Gives Main Address at Detroit NAACP Dinner Tonight

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and U.S. Rep.  Maxine Waters will headline the Detroit Branch NAACP’s 62nd Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Cobo Conference and Convention Center.

Warren, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, whose name has surfaced as a possible candidate for president in 2020, will deliver the keynote address, WXYZ reports. Waters, also a critic of Trump, will receive the James Weldon Johnson Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Southwest Detroit businesswoman and activist Jane Garcia will be honored with the Ida B. Wells Freedom and Justice Award. Garcia is board chair for Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development (LASED).  

Former Acting U.S.Attorney Gen. Sally Yates, fired by the Trump administration, also plans to  attend.
