So look what's brewing not far from Little Caesars Arena, according to Kirk Pinho of Crain's Detroit Business:

A taproom for Founders Brewing Co. is headed to downtown Detroit on Charlotte Street off Cass Avenue, according to a source familiar with the deal.

Grand Rapids-based Founders is expected open its taproom at 456 Charlotte St., on the edge of the 50-block District Detroit now under construction. . . .

This would be Founders' first taproom outside its home base in Grand Rapids, where it was founded 20 years ago by Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers.

An announcement is expected Tuesday morning.

Sue Mosey, executive director of Midtown Detroit Inc., is among those scheduled to speak at the announcement, Pinho adds. So are Marcia Venture, senior vice president of Invest Detroit, and Matt Walters, the city's development manager.

The craft brewer's Grand Rapids taproom has beer classes, tastings and tours. Its menu includes sandwiches, bratwurst, cheestaek, French bread pizza, baked crab dip, a cheese plate, hummus and olive tapenade, chili, a daily soups and five salads.

The unnamed insider "said the growing brewery has been looking for space in the city for more than a year, largely in the southern portion of Midtown," Crain's reports.
