After opening last June, Kit and Ace, retailer of expensive "athleisure" clothes, is closing its downtown Detroit store at 1459 Woodward Ave. immediately.

It's not just a Detroit thing. The chain says on Facebook:

From the start, Kit and Ace has been about innovation. As the retail landscape changes, we’re changing the way we transform your wardrobe. Kit and Ace will be closing its showrooms in the United States, the UK and Australia.

Our Canadian showrooms will remain open.

The store, in a Bedrock Detroit building, was part of the fresh collection of businesses along Woodward that include John Varvatos, Nike, Bonobos, Under Armour, Moosejaw and wine shop, House of Pure Vin, that has given it a little bit of  a feel of Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Some days, you can see people casually shopping up and down the strip, including couples with baby strollers.

Georgea Kovanis of the Detroit Free Press writes:

Its loss makes the downtown shopping strip — which includes menswear retailers John Varvatos and Bonobos — feel even more masculine.
