The five-story, boutique hotel's food and beverage program is headed up by Michelin star chef Thomas Lents, writes Brenna Houck of Eater Detroit:

Lents grew up in Michigan and has worked in kitchens across the country including Joël Robuchon at The Mansion in Las Vegas. In 2012 he landed a high-profile gig as executive chef at the Trump International Hotel Chicago’s Sixteen, where he helped the restaurant recapture two Michelin stars.

The 100-room hotel is at West Larned and Washington in the former Detroit Fire Department headquarters, across from Cobo Center. It's part of the Aparium Hotel Group, a Chicago firm that fancies itself as being a purveyor of distinctive hotels. Its site says:

We believe in authentic flavor and celebrate true neighborhood character; not just the thoroughfares but the intriguing side streets. Our growing collection of independent hotels are remarkable in every way. Like the cities they inhabit, each Aparium hotel is unique—engaging, inspiring, individual, and real.

Aparium was founded in 2011 by Chicago hospitality executive and entrepreneur Mario Tricoci and luxury hotel veteran Kevin Robinson. The duo saw a clear need for a company that could bring C-suite service and accommodations to underserved—yet distinct and important—cities while maintaining and celebrating the unadulterated character of each.
