Despite nagging concerns about crime, blight, poverty and stagnating job opportunities, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan holds a big lead in a Detroit News poll over his most recognizable opponent, state Sen. Coleman A. Young II.

The survey of 400 people likely to vote in the Aug. 8  primary shows Duggan with a 55-23 percent lead, report Nicquel Terry and Christine Ferretti. Another 19 percent ae undecided, while 2 percent support youth mentor Edward D. Dean and 1 percent back Donna Marie Pitts.

The poll was conducted by  Lansing-based Target-Insyght last Wednesday and Thursday.

Support for Duggan tracks with Detroit voters’ perceptions of whether the city government has increased money, staffing and time in their neighborhood, Target Insyght pollster Ed Sarpolus tells The News.
