Eighty-four apartments, including 21 designated as "affordable housing," will be in this building planned for Midtown.
The project at John R and Garfield in the Sugar Hill Historic District is scheduled to break ground in 2018.
The developer plans to buy just over three-quarters of an acre of city land for $400,000, a Detroit government announcement says. The proposed sale goes before the Detroit City Council for approval later this year.
The site will have 7,000 square feet of commercial space, a garage with almost 300 spotrs for residents and the public and green alleyways
Internationally known architect Phil Freelon, who designed the new National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., heads the design team.
“This development is part of our larger strategy for Detroit. This project will add affordable homes in the heart of Midtown, ensuring that Detroiters of all income levels can live anywhere in the city, even in sought-after areas like this,” says Mayor Mike Duggan.
