New restaurants keep on coming, not only in Detroit, but in the burbs as well.

Detroit Free Press food writer Mark Kurlyandchik lists eight noteworthy newcomers. Here's a sampling and his descriptions:

► The Apparatus Room: 250 W. Larned: Led by two-Michelin-starred chef Thomas Lents, the main-floor restaurant of the Foundation Hotel in the former Detroit Fire Department Headquarters is named for the room's previous use.

► Nomad Grill: 26555 Telegraph, Southfield: Coach Insignia, the Epicurean Group's crown jewel atop the Renaissance Center, became a victim of downtown Detroit's red-hot real-estate market earlier this year when it was announced that the restaurant's landlord wasn't interested in renewing its lease. Luckily, the hospitality group had a contingency plan in place. The Nomad Grill in Southfield's newly renovated Premier Hotel by Best Western is run by much of the former Coach Insignia staff. The lobster corn dog is still around, too.

► Caucus Club: 150 W. Congress, Detroit. New owner George Sboukis gutted and brightened the space, which maintains an old-school vibe thanks to carpeted floors, white tablecloths and sound-dampening acoustical panels that keep noise levels in check. Though the chophouse-style menu is new, the classic Bullshot cocktail is back with a modern twist.
