The Hollywood team behind "Detroit" has taken an interesting approach to advertising for the upcoming Kathryn Bigelow film on the Algiers Motel killings in July 1967, notes Deadline Detroit co-founder Bill McGraw on Facebook:

They're using an image that recalls the attempt by U.S. Rep. John Conyers to calm the crowd on 12th Street on the morning of July 23, when he climbed on top of Arthur Johnson's car with a bullhorn. The crowd shouted him down; Conyers and Johnson were forced to retreat. This ad is on Russell Street just north of Gratiot in Eastern Market.

The film premieres July 25 at the Fox Theatre and opens nationally Aug. 4.
