Rick Snyder's name added to Mitt Romney veepstakes guessing game
Pundit predictions are a funny thing. No one except Andrew Sullivan remembers when you get it wrong. If you manage to throw some weird prognostication against the wall and it sticks, everyone thinks you’re Nostradamus.
That’s why so many people spend so much time making dumb predictions.
Which brings us Tampa Bay Online contributor and GOP consultant Chris Ingram. Based on Republican Convention hotel assignments, Ingram believes Mitt Romney is poised to select our own Rick Snyder to be his running mate.
Gov. Snyder has all the tools to make it on the national stage, and unlike the last Republican vice-presidential candidate Snyder most likely is aware of the Federal Reserve’s role in the economy. At the same time, a Romney-Snyder ticket does seem a little, shall we say, “mainline” for the liking of the increasingly fundamentalist GOP base.
If you don’t believe me, check out this rightmichigan.com post about Snyder’s 2011 State of the State address. To hear them tell it, you would think Che himself delivered the speech.
And, let’s not forget, we’re four months away from the convention, so any “I-think-the-running-mate-will-be-________” speculation is basically bullshit.
Sorry for the language, but plain old mother talk can’t express how farcical the veepstakes guessing game is this far away from the convention.
Could Mitt Romney pick Snyder? Well, sure. Or Marco Rubio or Rand Paul or Chris Christie or Rick Santorum or Bob McDonnell or Jeb Bush or Paul Ryan or Mitch Daniels or Bobby Jindal or probably a dozen of so people who aren’t on the conventional wisdom radar.
You’re better off wagering on which pigeon will fly off a given wire first. -- JW
