Gunshots Wound More Than a Dozen Detroit Kids in 2017 So Far

We hear about the endless gun violence in Detroit and in other cities around the country. And we often take particular note when a child is shot.

But we seldom hear about the struggles of that the children deal with in the aftermath. 

So far this year, gunshots have wounded over a dozen children in Detroit. Elisha Anderson of the Detroit Free Press looks at hardships these shootings cause the vkictims: 

Those who survive face a wide range of obstacles. Recovery may take weeks or months for some, and others have lifelong debilitating injuries that permanently alter how they live...

In Detroit, less than 6% of all nonfatal shooting victims are under age 17. But because of the sheer number of nonfatal shootings in the city — about 1,000 annually — dozens of kids are injured each year from gunfire. Several more are killed.
