President Donald Trump is sharply criticized for a mild statement Saturday on the Charlottesville, Va.  madness, which referred to "this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on all sides."

Retired U.S. Rep. John Dingell, on the other hand, is praised for two sharply worded tweets in response that quickly went viral. A woman died when a man drove into counter-protestors.

Those posts draw more than 7,300 comments, 274,000 retweets and 788,000 "likes."

These are among comments:

  • Damn, can we get John Dingell back into Congress? Please?
  • Thank you for your service to MI. Speaking out against such horrible things is exactly what we should see from everyone. -- Nathan E. Fetter, Pontiac
  • And I will be beside you, sir. Thank you. -- Geoff Regan
  • Thank you for your service, Sir. Much respect. -- Danna

Earlier last week, Dingell -- who has 145,000 followers on Twitter -- shared a photo of Trump at his New Jersey country club and commented: "Make America Golf Again."
