Pricey Patties: 11 Detroit Burgers That Will Cost You $13-$22

The hamburger has been a staple of the American diet for well over a century. Generally, most burgers sell for under $9 or $10, and some for far less.      

But there's joints in town that sell a pretty pricey burger. Some use wagyu or grass-fed beef, or special bacon or cheeses, or have an egg on top.

Here's a guide to Detroit's pricier burgers that cost $13 to $22. The descriptions are taken from the restaurant menus. Feel free to review any of these burgers in the comment section below.

► Townhouse Detroit: 500 Woodward Ave. -- The Townhouse burger uses 10 ounces of a proprietary blend of 28-day dry aged steak cuts and is prepared daily and hand pattied to order on an authentic plugra butter brioche bun. It's topped with bourbon glazed onions and aged white cheddar. It's served with Townhouse fries: $19. (A smaller 7 ounce version for lunch goes for $14).

► London Chop House: 155 W. Congress -- LCH Pancho Burger is eight ounces of ground A4 wagyu beef with homemade bacon, caramelized onion, Pancho sauce and blue cheese. $18 (lunch menu).

► Wolfgang Puck Steak (MGM Grand Detroit): 1777 3rd Ave. -- House burger with roasted tomato garlic aloli, onion, lettuce, tomato.  $22 a la carte. 

► Caucus Club: 150 W. Congress -- The Roque-Burger is made of seasoned house grind beef stuffed with Cognac-Roquefort, and wood fired. It's presented open face on pressed pumpernickel with Caucus Sauce. $16 (lunch).

► Apparatus Room (Detroit Foundation Hotel): 250 W. Larned --  House blend prime burger; double patty, American cheese with griddled onion. $14

► Gold Cash Gold: 2100 Michigan Avenue -- The GCG Burger is made with grass fed beef, bacon, dunbarton blue cheese, romesco, charred scallion and a potato bun. It comes with fries. $14.

► Grey Ghost Detroit: 47 Watson St. -- Cheeseburger. $13.  Add $1 for an egg. 

► 24 Grille (Westin Book Cadillac Detroit): Ground prime with white American, bacon, mixed greens, tomato, onion, sauce and a brioche bun. Choice of chips and gorgonzola sauce or fries). $21.

► Volt (Marriott Hotel): 400 Renaissance Center -- Black angus served with whiskey cheddar and smoked bacon on egg wash bun. $14.

► Prism (Greektown Casino-Hotel): 555 E Lafayette St. --  The Prism Burger is made with American wagyu beef, applewood smoked bacon, white cheddar tomato relish and garlic aioli fries. $21.

 HopCat: 4265 Woodward Ave. --  With corned beef, Wisconsin Swiss and cheddar, topped with caramelized onions and porter mushrooms on grilled light rye with Thousand Island dressing. Comes with Crack Fries and pickle. $13.95
