Detroit's Whitney to Be on Food Paradise's Halloween-Theme Episode

October 05, 2017, 7:40 AM

Detroit's classic Whitney restaurant on Woodward Avenue in Midtown will get some air time Sunday at 8 p.m. on the Travel Channel's "Food Paradise" show.

The special Halloween-themed "Scary Good" installment features places across the country known for their haunting nature or whipping up spooky edibles, writes Susan Selasky of the Detroit Free Press. The word is that the mansion turned restaurant is haunted by the original owner David Whitney Jr. and his wife Flora who died before the home was finished being built in 1894. A year after her death, Whitney married Flora's sister Sara.

Whitney owner Bud Liebler said in a news release that "the crew visited the restaurant’s dining rooms, Ghost Bar and carriage house and participated in a paranormal tour during its daylong visit this summer."

"We've always said that if we are indeed haunted, we’re haunted by friendly spirits," said Liebler in the release. "The Whitney has stood sentinel on Woodward Avenue for almost 125 years, and it’s stood solidly and securely. We think the spirits have been looking out for us."
