Convicted Detroit drug trafficker Richard Wershe Jr., who was released from the Michigan prison system earlier this year after 29 years behind bars, is now being housed in a minimum-security prison in Florida, Dave Bartkowiak Jr. of WDIV reports.

Wershe, 47, is at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Lake City, Fla., serving a sentence for being part of a car theft ring.

While serving his Michigan drug sentence, Wershe helped the FBI set up a sting to bust crooked cops and was put in the witness protection program in different out-of-state prisons, first in Arizona, then Florida.

While behind bars in Florida, he got involved in helping his sister buy stolen cars that she later sold.

In Florida, his current release date is April 14, 2021.

WDIV says:

If Wershe serves all his time in Florida it could be a little more than three and a half years, but he will also be eligible to ask for release through clemency in as little as a few months. Wershe said he will stay positive and do everything he can to gain early release.
