Garbage hauling tycoons Charles B. Rizzo Jr and father Charles P. Rizzo, who built a trash empire in Metro Detroit, only to see it crumble as they became central figures in a wide-sweeping FBI probe into public corruption in Macomb County, have cut plea deals with the feds, the Detroit Free Press reports.
A plea hearing is set for the father and son on Nov. 9 before U.S. District Judge Robert H. Cleland in Port Huron, Tresa Baldas and Ann Zaniewski of the Freep report.
A federal grand jury in May Charles B. "Chuck" Rizzo, 46, former CEO of garbage hauler Rizzo Environmental Services, charging him with five counts of bribery and three counts of conspiracy to commit bribery in connection with garbage contracts in Clinton, Macomb, and Chesterfield townships.
Additionally, the indictment charged Charles P. Rizzo, 70, of New Baltimore, his son Charles B. Rizzo, tow truck king Gasper Fiore and Derrick Hicks, 47, of Bloomfield Hills with scheming to steal hundreds of thousand of dollars from Rizzo Environmental Services between between 2013 and 2016 when the majority owner was a New York-based private equity firm.
