A California investor pays cash for the  largest private residence in Detroit.

The historic Bishop Mansion in Palmer Woods in northwest Detroit, with more than 35,000 square feet, sold Thursday -- reportedly for more than $2.5 million, Ann Zaniewski writes in the Detroit Free Press.

It's apparently the city's most expensive residential real estate transaction in at least a decade.

The Wellesley Drive property came fully furnished, says agent Antonio Rodriguez of Re/Max Suburban in Sterling Heights. It has 62 rooms, 10 fireplaces and even a private chapel.

"My investor collects historic homes throughout the country, and he fell in love with it," Rodriguez said.

The seller is Bishop Wayne T. Jackson of Great Faith Ministries International, president and founder of the Impact Network, who bought the home in 1995 from Detroit Piston John Salley.
