Robert Davis has worn many hats in the past several years: Community activist, government watchdog and convicted Highland Park School Board member who embezzled nearly $200,000 from the impoverished school district.

Now, it's time for a second chance, according to his new boss, state Rep. LaTanya Garrett, who hired Davis in July as a policy analyst making $41,000 a year, according to Joe Guillen of the Detroit Free Press.

"The United States is a country of second chances. I don't want you to focus on this man's past," Garrett, a Democrat who represents Highland Park and part of Detroit, tells the Freep "I want you to drive home the good things Mr. Davis has done."

For Davis, who has filed more than 100 lawsuits in the past 10 years, this is his first full time job since getting out of prison last year after serving time for stealing the school money.
