Competition is stiff, but Detroit is convinced it has a shot at luring online retail giant Amazon to locate a second headquarters here.

Dan Gilbert plans to submit a Detroit-Windsor bid to Amazon on Thursday.

Whitney Eichinger, vice president of communications for Gilbert's Rock Ventures LLC, said the company plans no event Thursday, but intends to disclose more details on the proposal, reports Kirk Pinho and Chad Livengood of Crain's Detroit Business.

Mayor Mike Duggan tasked Gilbert with leading the charge to convince Amazon to settle here. The payoff would be about 50,000 high-paying jobs, which would be a game changer for Detroit.

Crain's reports:

In addition to partnering with Windsor, Detroit is getting regional support for the Amazon bid from leaders of Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties as well as Flint and Genesee County.

The Flint & Genesee County Chamber of Commerce has submitted documentation to the Michigan Economic Development Corp. to support Detroit's proposal to Amazon, MEDC spokeswoman Emily Guerrant said.
