Poll: Duggan Sees 13-Point Swing in His Favor After Contentious Debate

 

The combative mayoral debate on Wednesday was good to incumbent Mayor Mike Duggan, at least according to a poll conducted by Target Insyght. 

The poll found a 13-point boost in Duggan’s favor after the debate, according to a news release from the survey firm. 

Before the debate, a Target Insyght poll found Duggan ahead of his opponent, state Sen. Coleman A. Young II, 61% to 33%. Afterward, Target Insyght polled 400 people and found Duggan leading Young 65% to 24%.

The poll found Duggan leads in all demographic groups including age, race, ethnicity, gender and in all parts of the city. 

Nearly half of all respondents have an unfavorable opinion of Coleman Young II at 48%, the poll found. Duggan's unfavorable rating is at 20%.

"Despite what some might say, people do like Mike Duggan. They like him and the job he's doing," Target Insyght pollster Ed  Sarpolus tells MIRS.  "As far as Coleman Young, people loved his dad, but half of the voters have an unfavorable opinion of him."

In the city clerk's race, challenger Garlin Gilchrist is within striking distance of  incumbent Janice Winfrey. Garlin trails by 7 points with 35%. Winfrey is at 42% and 23% are undecided.
