Wise-cracking WDIV sportscaster Bernie Smilovitz has a son who's into some serious stuff.

Jacob Smilovitz, 28, who graduated from University of Michigan's Stephen M. Ross School of Business, is named in Forbes 30 Under 30 group for the nation, Julie Hinds of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Forbes writes:

"As director of mergers and acquisitions at the New York Times, Smilovitz is charged with finding new revenue options for the media giant. His biggest deal? The 2016 acquisition of The Wirecutter -- a deal valued at about $30 million, which was the Times's first M&A activity in more than eight years."

The young Smilovitz has the media DNA.

Besides his dad's long-standing role in the media, his mom, Donna Rockwell, a clinical psychologist, formerly worked as a producer for legendary TV reporter Daniel Schorr, and  is among the founding staff members of CNN, Hinds reports.
