Clinton Township Restaurant Must Delete Muer Family Name

November 20, 2017, 7:59 AM

Joe Muer, one of the legendary names in the Detroit restaurant business, is getting court protection.

A court order signed Monday by Macomb County Circuit Judge Kathryn Viviano will require a soon-to-open seafood restaurant at the Mall at Partridge Creek in Clinton Township to cover up or delete the Muer family name in any signs, advertising, social media posts or on the menu, reports Mitch Hotts of The Macomb Daily/

The newcomer is owned by David Muer, a relative of restaurant operator Joseph F. Muer. It originally used the family name, the paper says:

Restaurateur Joe Vicari of Joe Muer Seafood in Detroit had sued to stop the owners of M’s Table + Bar from using the name associated with the well-known Muer eatery, saying it would infringe on trademarks he holds and confuse diners.

Karet Projects LLC is leasing the former Tin Fish building at the open-air shopping center in Clinton Township, which is expected to open "any day now," according to a hand-written sign on the front door.
