Scorsese, De Niro, Pacino and Pesci Film a Jimmy Hoffa Movie for Netflix

Legendary director Martin Scorsese is filming a Jimmy Hoffa movie in New York with A-list actors Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, Bobby Cannavale, Ray Romano and Kathrine Narducci.

The movie, "The Irishman," slated to be released in 2019 by Netflix, centers on the story of  Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, a reputed hit man suspected of involvement in the Teamsters leader's 1975 disappearance from the Detroit area. Before his death in 2003, Sheeran gave hundreds of hours of interviews to one of his former attorneys, and confessed to pulling the trigger and killing Hoffa. The attorney, Charles Brandt, published a book titled "I Heard You Paint Houses."

Many have cast doubt on Sheeran's claims about killing Hoffa, but that probably won't matter much with a cast as grand as this.

The Low-Down, a website reporting on Manhattan's Lower East SWide, writes:

Martin Scorsese’s "The Irishman" has moved on to the next locale after shooting on Orchard Street Friday evening. In a neighborhood that is at least indifferent and often totally irritated by the presence of television and film crews, this past weekend’s big budget Netflix production caused quite a bit of excitement. It was Scorsese, after all.

DeNiro, Pacino, Keitel, Pesci, etc. began shooting shortly after dark and went late into the night at the intersection of Broome and Orchard streets. They took a break to celebrate Scorsese’s 75th birthday.

The Irishman recounts Frank Sheeran’s years as a mob hitman. Scorsese recreated Umberto’s Clam House on the Lower East Side. That’s the Little Italy restaurant where mobster Joe Gallo (played by Bobby Cannavale) was gunned down in 1972. The owners have spent the last several decades trying to put the violent episode behind them.
