November 24, 2017, 9:02 AM

Mayor Coleman A. Young talks about the RenCen.

In 1975, the Metropolitan Detroit Convention and Visitors Bureau produced a color 16 mm film promoting the city of Detroit as a great place to do business and live.

The city was still healing from the Detroit riot eight years earlier and Mayor Coleman A. Young was in the early stages of his first term in office.

The video includes Young talking about the new RenCen, and a guy with an ice cream cone walking down Congress in downtown Detroit expressing his enthusiasm about the city and its future.

"Things are really changing. I'm excited about what's going to happen in the next five to 10 years," the man says. "Great place to live."
