Jason Heien: "My beard sets me apart."

"My beard sets me apart from other people. I get compliments on it every day," says Jason Heien, Navy veteran, engineer and graphic designer who works in  downtown Detroit as a software engineer at GalaxE.Solutions.

Now, Heien competes against 10 other men around the country for "Wahl Man of the Year" for the best mustache, beard or goatee. The contest is run by an Illinois-based maker of clippers and shavers.

"My beard sets me apart from other people," the company quotes the Ypsilanti resident as saying. "I get compliments on it every day.”

Votes can be cast here through Dec. 7. "I want to win for Detroit and I want to win for Michigan," Heien of Ypsilanti tells Corp! magazine.

Besides pride and glory, the winner gets $1,500 and will be featured in national ads. The other candidates get $500 and a Wahl trimmer.
