After 16 years as an anchor and reporter at WXYZ, Stephen Clark announces that he'll retire at the end of February.
Clark, whose journalism career spans more than four decades, writes on Facebook:
Today I announced my retirement from WXYZ, my TV home for 16 years. At the end of February I’ll turn my side of the news desk over to somebody else and go home for dinner with my family.
I have a few other things I’d like to accomplish as well. My granddaughter Scarlet was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a condition that makes every day extra-special. Inspired by Scarlet our family is raising a million dollars to build a totally accessible, barrier free playground for kids of all abilities and disabilities. I also write and perform music and plan to spend a lot more time at my other home in Nashville meeting and working with people who know a lot more about the craft of songwriting than I do. If you know any Nashville movers and shakers drop me a line. It's all about relationships!
Finally I’m going to spend the next few decades thoroughly annoying Larenne, who has patiently put up with my strange hours and many career moves over our 30+ years of marriage. She could probably use your condolences.
You can usually find her at her spa in Commerce, Zealand Spa Salon. Drop in and sample her fantastic service. We can definitely use the money, me being unemployed and all.
At this point I’d probably say I’ll miss you—but I won’t; mainly because I’m not going anywhere as far as Facebook is concerned. I’ll still be here, snarky as ever. My posts may have a few more pictures of Scarlet and videos of songs I’m working on and fewer pictures of Carolyn, Rexy and Brad -- but the posts will always be mine and not from some alleged “assistant’ people assume I have.
I like to think I’ve been one of the most accessible TV anchors in the business. I don’t plan to be any less accessible so please stay in touch. And I’m serious—if you know anyone in Nashville . . .
