Michigan native Mitt Romney, who ran unsuccessfully for president, said the election of Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore of Alabama would be a bad thing for the party.
"Roy Moore in the US Senate would be a stain on the GOP and on the nation. Leigh Corfman and other victims are courageous heroes. No vote, no majority is worth losing our honor, our integrity," Romney tweeted, CNN reports.
Moore is accused of pursuing teenage girls while he was in his 30s and sexually assaulting some. Corfman has accused Moore of initiating a sexual encounter when he was 32 and she was 14.
Interestingly, Romney is the uncle of Ronna Romney McDaniel, the former chairwoman of the Michigan Republican Party, and the current chairwoman of the Republican National Committee.
The RNC had cut ties with Moore, but just recently decided to support his candidacy. President Donald Trump has also endorsed Moore.
