Larry Nassar, the former MSU and USA Gymnastics doctor, who turned out to be nothing more than a sexual predator with a stethoscope and a medical degree, was sentenced Thursday in Grand Rapids federal court to 60 years in federal prison on child pornography charges he had pleaded guilty to, reports the Lansing State Journal.

"You have to wonder whether he felt he was omnipotent, whether he felt he was getting away with something so cleverly," says U.S. District Judge Janet Neff. "He has demonstrated that he should never again have access to children."

The 54-year-old's federal time will be served consecutively, rather than concurrently,  with state sentences for sexual assault of girls and women. He has pleaded guilty to 10 sexual assault charges and will be sentenced next month, when the equivalent of a life sentence is likely.

Defense attorneys had asked for leniency, saying the doctor had worked toward redemption by helping fellow inmates and taking Bible classes since his arrest nearly a year ago, Justin A. Hinkley and Beth LeBlanc of the State Journal writre.
